(1) Prohibited goods

some goods are prohibited from importation for reasons of public safety, health and environment, or protection of national resources. Examples of the prohibited goods:

• Hexavalent chromium except for paint and coating industry use
• Fireworks (certain kinds)
• Toy guns shooting bead bullets
• Laser pens and other laser medals
• Lighters that looks like pistols
• Dry plant materials containing some kinds of substances
• Materials and equipment containing camouflaged cameras and apparatus combined with video and/or sound recording.

(2) Goods subject to prior import Licensing

Import Pre-approval is required for certain goods, which acts as an import license. Examples of these goods are as follows:

• Used tires
• Used, refurbished and stock electrical appliances
• Radio devices
• Satellite receivers for non-television broadcasting

Import License

Import licenses, both automatic and non-automatic, are issued mainly by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply. Importation Decree No. 109 of 2015 lists the products subject to automatic and non-automatic licenses.

Non-automatic import licenses are used for the protection of health, safety, national security, public order, the environment, morals and the conservation of natural resources. They may also be issued for products subjected to quantitative restrictions.
